December’s Christmas Markets in the Highlands

We counted 6 Christmas markets in our area on the weekend! From regular weekend fares like the Black Isle Farmer’s market turning Christmassy in North Kessock. To the local primary school in Kirkhill. Across to the Singleton Distillery in Muir of Ord holding their annual Christmas Fare (whisky tasting too!) To the wonderful Beauly Christmas Market in our nearest village. And into Inverness at the Creative Academy, to name a few!

The Highlands, and this area, is so inspiring for crafters, art makers, painters, wood turners… you can pick up some of their wonderful creations at these fares. Everything from candles, to felt pictures, framed photographs to tartan cows. Lampshades to wood turned bowls, and soaps. Silk scarfs to wooden bird houses. Homemade jams and chutneys, to glass art. The list is endless.

It’s not surprising that arts and crafts is a passion for us living in this area when we are so lucky to be inspired by our surrounding landscape and scenery. And I’m happy to say I picked up some great Christmas presents. It’s great to be able to shop local from local producers.

There are still so many markets and fares to come over the next few weeks. From the ‘Veco’ Christmas Fare in the Victorian Market in Inverness (vegan and eco friendly!) on 6th December; to the wonderful Eden Court Christmas Craft and Food Fair on all weekend. Bogbain just outside Inverness is holding its annual Christmas Vintage Fare on the 7th. And one of our favourites also on 7th at the Tomatin Distillery. We love the Earth Kind Christmas Sunday Market, in Inverness on 22nd December, where you can get all your green and eco friendly gifts and food items!

December is a great time of year to visit. Even less visitors in the area than normal, so peaceful and quiet. Some great fares to attend, wonderful Highland Food & Drink events, panto at the theatre at Eden Court. Dark skies and starry nights with a chance to see the Northern Lights. Wonderful frosty morning walks and coming back to a roaring log burner.

It’s not too late to book for this December either! Or check out 2020 availability.
